After its project reveal at this year’s Cannes Yachting Festival, Greenline Yachts is announcing that the new 42-foot model will make its world debut at boot in January 2026. 

Already under construction at the Slovenian shipyard, the Greenline 42 combines higher performance, innovative solar technology, and unprecedented customisation.


The optimised hull delivers a top speed of 25 knots. It can be equipped with Greenline’s H-Drive 6G system for silent electric manoeuvring and better efficiency. Ten solar panels produce up to 4.3kW to power all onboard systems and recharge batteries faster.


This is Greenline’s most versatile model yet. The aft cockpit offers two layouts, including a drop-down transom and removable furniture, while the foredeck lounge provides a stylish, functional social space. Marco Casali’s designs extend to two interior styles, balancing timeless aesthetics with modern luxury. 

Owners can now customise cabins, bathrooms, furniture, and appliances more than ever before.

Greenline Yachts has developed a distinctive philosophy of responsible yachting. This is not simply a matter of hybrid propulsion and solar panels – the whole design ethos of Greenline Yachts is built around efficiency in the water. It starts with the “superdisplacement” hulls of each model, which have been rigorously developed and tested to provide the smoothest ride, stability and efficiency at both lower and higher speeds. 

Responsible Yachting extends to the construction process as well. The high-tech foam sandwich used to strengthen the hull comes from recycled PET plastic. Lay-up is through vacuum infusion, ensuring very precise material use. Currently using exclusively vinyl-ester resin allowing a 5-year warranty against osmosis. Furthermore the yard’s technicians are experimenting with natural fibres and green resins in the lay-up of the yachts themselves. 

The shipyard is also reducing waste and power usage on the production lines. Any offcuts of wood from the interior fit-out are collected and pressed into heating pellets, while leftover foam is reused by a neighbouring company to produce home insulation. Production of single-use marketing materials has been almost eliminated and even then, it is clearly focused on recycled or sustainable materials.

Greenline Yachts is also working on an annual Greenline Yachts award to recognise those owners who have made the biggest strides towards responsible yachting each year. For example, the awards will celebrate the owner whose yacht has generated the greatest amount of solar power over that year, as well as the highest number of electric engine hours. This data can be tracked by the client via the Greenline app if the owners agree.

It is all part of the Greenline Yachts philosophy of empowering owners to put sustainability at the core of their yachting experience. Growing demand for more sustainable boats across southeast Asia is playing to the strengths of Greenline Yachts. As a leader in Responsible Yachting, Greenline Yachts is well placed to respond to this trend through its regional dealer Derani Yachts. The motivated team at Derani have already sold three Greenline yachts in the short time they have been representing the brand.

Greenline’s yachts are designed to be highly efficient to operate, thanks to their state-of-the-art hybrid power train, offered as an option in all models. Working with the yachts’ large solar surface area and lithium battery bank, the 6G H-Drive provides silent power at anchor and the ability to navigate for several hours under pure electric power.


“Green energy is very much a hot topic in Singapore - perhaps less so in other parts of Asia, but it’s growing,” says Derani Yachts’ Managing Director Håkan Lange. “For us as a Greenline dealer, it’s an educational journey whereby we highlight the added value with a hybrid propulsion system in relation to the type of boating an individual is doing or planning.

“While the green element is important to some, it is an exploratory option for those that want to slide in and out of marinas in total silence and emissions free. It is also about island-hopping in the same pleasant electric drive mode. For Singapore, hybrid propulsion is very interesting as most boaters congregate in the same location at weekends, and that’s just an hour away.”

The level of awareness about Responsible Yachting may vary across the region, but the clear benefits of hybrid operation seem to have universal appeal. Accordingly, Derani has sold boats in Singapore and Thailand with further strong leads in Malaysia and Indonesia. The boats sold represent the core lines of the brand, including the Greenline 40, 45 Fly and 48 Fly.

Beyond their efficiency and quietness, it is clear that the carefully considered design of the yachts appeals strongly to Asian customers. Based in Phuket, Derani knows the market well and sees that the flybridge option with its hardtop suits local conditions and cruising habits. Overhangs protecting the large cockpit aft and the windows of the superstructure help keep the boat cooler in the relentless sun. With light hull colours and big social areas, Greenline yachts really appeal.

“We know from hundreds of our customers around the world that Greenline Yachts represents something different to the other brands out there,” said Greenline’s Chief Experience Officer Alessandro Lorenzon. “We don’t go for constant aesthetic tweaks or quick wins – our boats are designed and built to give many years of cruising enjoyment. With the flagship Greenline 58 also available in a flybridge model, and news of a compact new Greenline 42 model due to launch soon, Greenline is anticipating more sales in southeast Asia. “Greenline has not been active in this market for long, but we see tremendous potential for growth,” said Greenline CEO Vladimir Zinchenko.

With a better optimised hull, the boat has a higher top speed of 30 knots for the same incredibly efficient 2x 250hp power train. Refined naval architecture rethought by Micad, reduces drag, while Greenline’s proprietary H-Drive 6G optimises battery charging and fuel consumption, allowing silent electric manoeuvring. Meanwhile, four additional solar panels on the coach roof will bring the total to 10, whose maximum output of 4.1kW will run all hotel appliances and recharge the battery bank even faster.

The Greenline 42 redefines onboard social spaces, offering greater flexibility and smarter use of every corner. The aft cockpit offers two radically different layouts, including features such as a drop-down transom, lowering swim platform and the option of fully removable furniture. There is also a new foredeck lounge area over the anchor covers, in line with the design of the larger Greenline 58.

Marco Casali extends his partnership with the brand by designing not only the exterior, but also three interior styles for the new yacht. From the outset, he aimed to reinvigorate rather than reinvent Greenline’s timeless looks and luxurious practicality. Built around a natural colour palette and renewable materials, there is ‘golden teak’, ‘silver oak’ or ‘coffee walnut’.

Small developments to the classic Greenline interior lay-out will also delight connoisseurs. Aft windows by the galley can now be slid effortlessly down to provide better ventilation, for instance. Then there’s the ability to decide whether there should be a second guest bathroom below or rather a walk-in closet or dedicated vanity table for the owner. And for the first time on a Greenline, there are dashboard-style climate controls at the helm station to keep you cool, or warm, as required.

In fact, the options on this new Greenline 42 are legion. Pick your selection on cabins, wardrobes and toilets; your choice of fridges and freezers in various formats; and an extra sofa in the saloon. Not for nothing is Greenline calling this boat its most customisable model ever.

“The Greenline 42 was an exciting challenge for us. We need to follow the huge success of the other models adding even more comfort on board and a more modern shape respecting our timeless lines. From the interior point of view the big revolution was the full glass ending of the saloon that allows big openings of the galley and creates a strong connection with the cockpit now offered in two versions. On the exterior side instead, we tried to connect the modern shape of the new Greenline projects we designed like the 58 with the classic shape that a boat like this is asking for.” said Casali.

Bright prospects for Greenline’s market-leading hybrid propulsion

It will be a double debut for Greenline Yachts at the Singapore Yachting Festival this year. The yard is showcasing the Greenline 45 Fly and Greenline 48 Fly - both in hard-top versions. It is the first time that either of these boats has been on display in Asia and marks the emergence of Singapore as the region’s most important yachting show.

These two models are among the Slovenian yard’s bestsellers, with their generous social spaces and highly efficient hybrid drivetrains. But the hard-top version is a new addition to the portfolio, and one that is expected to appeal in Asia’s yachting hotspots, where shade and the potential for extra solar panels is a real advantage.

The hard-top allows an extra four large solar panels to be installed, giving these two yachts an additional 1.7kW of solar power potential. That’s almost triple the standard 0.64kW already installed on the coachroof and flybridge surfaces. It’s enough to generate up to 10kWh of green power on a sunny day, which can keep the boat operating silently at anchor day and night. With the option of up to 80kWh of high-efficiency lithium batteries, the boats are capable of spending 48 hours at anchor without starting the generator – even with the aircon running.

“It is a singular measure of the exceptional efficiency of Greenline’s hybrid yachts that they can run on silent electric power for three days or even more between charges,” said Vladimir Zinchenko, owner and CEO of Greenline Yachts. “The hard top turbo charges this capability and illustrates our pledge to support the responsible yachting of the future.”

Both boats on show in Singapore encapsulate the thoughtful design and fantastic comfort that have made Greenline yachts so sought after. The Greenline 45 Fly offers three decks of accommodation, as well as generous exterior space. There is the option of two or three cabins – two large ensuite doubles in both cases, and the choice of extra storage space, an office or a third twin/double cabin. The larger Greenline 48 Fly also offers three flexible guest cabins, with the additional option of a crew cabin at the transom and a deep storage locker beneath the galley sole.

Both boats can be fitted with standard twin diesel drives giving up to 28 knots, or Greenline’s state-of-the-art 6G HDrive hybrid technology. This option includes the same diesel engines up to 2x 370hp, but also two 25kW electric motors. Under electric power alone, the boat can achieve up to 20 nautical miles range at its leisurely 5-knot eco speed. Alternatively, the motors become powerful generators when the diesel engines are running - quickly refilling the batteries to provide another 48 hours of silence at anchor. Testing shows that this system can reduce the carbon emissions associated with the boat’s hotel load by as much as 88 per cent.

Derani Yachts has been the regional dealer for Greenline Yachts since late 2023, but has already delivered three yachts to local buyers and has several other boats under negotiation. “Boaters in Asia are becoming more environmentally conscious,” said Håkan Lange, Managing Director of Derani Yachts. “The idea of leaving the marina in total silence, or cruising around tropical islands with no emissions and in total silence is a feeling that must be experienced to be appreciated!

“Greenline Yachts is the market leader in hybrid boats up to 58ft, and the technology is quickly gaining ground here. There are even discussions about requiring all yachts to enter and depart marinas under hybrid propulsion by 2030. So, interesting times ahead and, with Greenline having a huge headstart on the competition, we look forward to the future.”

Greenline Yachts has become a cryptocurrency pioneer in the marine space, after taking its first order paid entirely in the digital currency Bitcoin. The deal for a Greenline 45 Coupe was inked at boot Düsseldorf 2025, with the funds received in early February. It was an entirely positive experience, according to Greenline Yachts.

“We have been allowing customers to pay in Bitcoin since 2018, but this is the first one to take us up on it,” said Greenline owner Vladimir Zinchenko. “We have got close a couple of times, but never cleared the final hurdle. This time it was different, and the transaction proceeded very smoothly. We would welcome future payments in cryptocurrency.”

The buyer was introduced by Yacht Partners International in Greece, and he quickly reached the contract stage for the 45 Coupe. Signing at Düsseldorf allowed him to benefit from Greenline’s usual boat show offer, providing an express build slot for summer delivery the same year. It means that the lucky owner should get his hands on the yacht in June – plenty of time for enjoying a Mediterranean summer.

Although the buyer’s funds were held in Bitcoin, they arrived in Greenline’s client account in Euros. The transaction was enabled by BitPay - a US based company that provides mobile checkout services to businesses looking to accept cryptocurrency. BitPay has a European regulatory presence, which made the process of accepting the money completely barrier-free.

Intriguingly, the buyer originally bought the Bitcoin when its value stood around $0.03 per coin, and has seen this soar to recent highs of more than $100,000. On the back of this three-million-fold growth, he has decided to set some new living quality standards – including buying the Greenline 45 Coupe.

He has selected the Coupe version of this best-selling yacht because it devotes much of the hard top to solar panels. With a maximum power rating of 2,200W, the array can generate up to 13.2kWh on a sunny day in Greece, where this new boat will be kept. It enables her to spend more than four days at anchor without having to fire up a generator, delivering a silent, emissions-free yachting experience.

This new boat will also feature an elegant office space instead of the standard third cabin. It occupies a space on the starboard side of the hull, between the two exceptional double cabins for the owner and their guests. The solar panels will help to power high-speed internet and IT in this space, enabling the owner to stay away from port for longer.

Greenline Yachts is taking another big step in the direction of responsible yachting by offering on the entire range alternative solutions to the old generator paradigm. The New Responsible Power Pack technology, a sound combination of bigger battery package and alternators, allows lower emissions without any compromise on the way the yachts are used. Among the other benefits al boats will now offer at least 48 hours of silent battery power at anchor or docks. Owners can run the entire house (including aircon full blast) and make the most of their home on the sea without the noise, vibration and smell of a generator. Not to mentions consumptions!

Instead of a generator, Greenline will fit a high-powered alternator that can take power from the engine when it runs to recharge a large lithium battery bank. In this way, the yacht can arrive at its destination with full batteries, ready for days of silent operation at anchor. When energy is used efficiently, the autonomy of the yacht can be extended for days by using solar power to cover hotel loads such as induction cooking and lighting.

The move will particularly fit those owners who still opt for a conventionally diesel powered Greenline yacht but are sensitive to new way of interpreting their yachting with a more responsible philosophy. 

Starting today, these yacht owners will no longer need a dedicated generator.

“For conventional yachts, eliminating the generator is nothing short of revolutionary,” said Vladimir Zinchenko, owner of Greenline Yachts. “There is barely a yacht on the market in Greenline’s class of length and luxury that is capable of doing this. My mission has always been to further the concept of responsible yachting, and this shift towards using high-powered alternators and batteries will save tonnes of CO2 emissions.”

Take the Greenline 45 – the Slovenian yard’s best-selling model. In the past, this yacht has needed an 11kW generator to cover hotel loads, consuming 4 litres of fuel per hour. It often runs constantly in order to power the air conditioning unit, amounting to consumption of nearly 200 litres over a 48-hour period at anchor.

Fitted with the new Responsible Power Pack, it would require just 9 hours of motoring to fully recharge the 34.2kWh batteries, giving emissions-free power on board for more than 48 hours. To produce its 6kW of power, the alternator places additional load on the engine which does marginally increase fuel consumption for that period. However, when compared side by side, the new system slashes the emissions of covering hotel loads by up to 88 per cent.

“The figures are unequivocal,” said Chief Commercial Officer Luca Raumland. “Our Responsible Power Pack can eliminate a staggering amount of the carbon emissions associated with running a yacht at anchor. By tapping the engine’s spare power when the yacht is under way, we can make non-hybrid models almost as efficient to operate as their hybrid alternatives. In fact, with careful use of the aircon, the solar panels fitted as standard to every yacht can fully replenish the batteries during the day and keep you emissions-free at anchor indefinitely.”

Greenline Yachts is preparing a major presence at the world's largest in-water boat show, the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show (October 30 – November 3). With no fewer than four of Greenline’s innovative hybrid models on the water, it will be a real showcase of the Slovenian yard’s capabilities. Show-goers will be able to see and experience all but one of the full Greenline range, plus a long list of popular options to enhance the yachting experience.

Visitors to the Cannes Yachting Festival had the opportunity to see the stunning new Greenline 58 Fly Hybrid in action. This yacht, currently the flagship of the Greenline fleet, demonstrates how luxury and eco responsibility can co-exist. Thanks to its next generation hybrid drive and carefully sourced interior, emissions are up to 40 per cent lower than a standard diesel.

The Greenline 58 Fly Hybrid features the Slovenian brand’s famously efficient lines, but with the added attraction of a generous flybridge deck. This gives the boat an extra dimension for warm water cruising. The design by naval architect Marco Casali creates an elegant, timeless silhouette that successfully minimizes the appearance of the flybridge while maxxing out its usable space.

Flexibility is the name of the game up here. As well as a fully equipped outdoor helm station, there is room for a smart bar, a six-person dining table and open deck for loungers or seating. A sturdy three-bar guard rail at the aft end gives way to a glass bulwark forward, both doing an excellent job of safety.

Just as with the Coupe version of the boat, the main deck aft offers a sleek, comfortable multifunctional space. Its centerpiece is the beautiful square dining table, with deep sofas down two sides and loose chairs at the forward end. It commands an unfettered view out aft over the harbor or anchorage, connecting you with the ocean and your surroundings. 

Down a short flight of teak-lined steps on each quarter, you reach the bathing platform, which is another stand-out feature of the Greenline 58 Fly Hybrid. Here there is almost 2m depth – enough to lay out loungers and chairs for an unbeatable water’s-edge atmosphere. Or use the hydraulic controls to lower the platform into the sea as a large swim step. 

Either way, there’s a handy upholstered seat set into the transom, which also swings open to reveal a large storage area for toys. The tender is carried on the bathing platform when under way and has the capacity for a jet tender up to 500kg, although a lighter boat is recommended for performance reasons.

Naturally, the boat also boasts a foredeck lounging area. A clever movable back / head rest means it can serve a double purpose. There is full-length lounging for three people on cushions ahead of the superstructure windows. Or turn the forward edge of this cushion into a seat for admiring the view from the bow.

Generous windows and a mullion-less windscreen transform the boat’s interior into a bright social space that keeps a strong connection with the ocean. The extra-large galley is positioned aftmost, and can be fully opened to the deck outside thanks to the glass door and swing-up window. Spacious and well equipped with fridges, a freezer, induction cooktop and a dishwasher, it is easy to prepare a special meal here.

One of Greenline’s trademark features, and a real testament to its yachting experience, is the cavernous space under the galley sole, which can be turned to a number of useful purposes. Some owners like to devote this room to extra food storage, allowing them to install a built-in washing machine in the galley cupboards. Others opt for a laundry room and technical space, while still others turn the volume over to a self-contained captain’s cabin.

With sightlines from bow to stern, the saloon also offers lots of social space. It has elegant sofas to starboard and a dinette to port, where the table can be raised or lowered to provide dining, coffee, drinks or indoor lounging. A designer ceiling light uses two effects to create a warm homely glow, reflecting spots off the natural wood table and using indirect lighting in the deckhead itself.

The materials specified by Greenline Yachts and Marco Casali owe much to the yard’s philosophy of responsible yachting. Fabrics from recycled fibers, sustainable woods and foam made from recycled PET – the footprint of the yacht is kept to the minimum. What’s more, waste is either recycled or used to generate heat. The Greenline 58 Fly Hybrid is offered with two ready-made interior moods that reflect different personalities: a cool mood invoking whites and light blues; and a warmer finish that uses more natural off-whites and beiges.

Accommodation is reached down a broad staircase to the lower deck, where a lobby gives access to the three cabins. The pick of them all, the owner’s suite, fills the full beam of the boat amidships. Generous hull lights bring natural light flooding in and give wonderful views of the anchorage. Besides the king-size double bed, there is a sofa, vanity table and lots of storage, including a walk-in wardrobe. 

Extreme comfort on this scale calls for an equally spectacular bathroom, and the master suite doesn’t disappoint. Designer fittings and elegant porcelainware contrast with the warm, woody finish and the elegant curves of the joinery. It makes for a tranquil, calming space, with a separate heads and shower cubicle. 

Another vast VIP double berth lies at the bow, also with an ensuite bathroom and elegant storage in real wood-finished joinery. Between the two to starboard is a flexible third cabin which can be configured as a twin for children or a double for friends – with an ensuite in either case. Long-term liveaboard owners could also turn this cabin into an office or even a dedicated TV room.

Greenline Yachts has always put sustainability front and center, and the Greenline 58 Fly Hybrid is no different. It uses the same hyper efficient ‘superdisplacement’ hull design as the smaller boats in the range, which gives optimum performance at a number of different speeds - from 6-knot cruising speed up to 29 knots flat-out. 

The H-Drive 6G is Greenline’s most efficient drive yet, with better performance, an improved user interface and groundbreaking low-voltage electric motor. As a pioneer in the hybrid space, Greenline Yachts has been honing its technology for over 15 years, and the latest iteration allows the Greenline 58 Fly Hybrid to offer an impressive range of 20 nautical miles in silent electric mode with speeds up to 6 knots. Across the typical use cycle of a Greenline Yacht, the hybrid system delivers a cut in emissions of up to 40 per cent.

Greenline Yachts’ solar roof concept puts a 4kW solar array to work at the service of the Greenline 58 Fly’s hotel services. Although it can also increase the yacht’s range a little, its main benefit is to enable long days and nights at anchor without needing to fire up a noisy generator. Combining Greenline’s high-quality lithium polymer batteries with up to 20kWh of solar input gives an astonishing three days at anchor without the generator. That extends indefinitely if the aircon is not required. 

The foundation of Greenline Yachts’ parallel hybrid concept is that the electric drive serves for silent maneuvering around the bay or harbor, while the diesel kicks in for greater speed over longer passages. A high top speed eats up the miles and ensures that the boat arrives with its batteries full, and ready for more silent days at anchor.

“Our unique approach to responsible yachting gives owners the option of speed when it matters and optimum efficiency over shorter distances,” said owner and MD Vladimir Zinchenko. “The Greenline 58 Fly Hybrid exemplifies the concept, but it’s also found across all our yachts. Alongside the Greenline 58 Fly Hybrid, Greenline Yachts also showed two of its best-selling models at the Cannes Yachting Festival. Both the Greenline 48 Coupe and the Greenline 45 Fly were on the stand in Cannes’ iconic Vieux Port. Both hugely successful models have sold more than 100 units, and they neatly illustrate Greenline Yachts’ two different superstructure options: the sleek Coupe variant and the luxurious Fly.

What’s more, they are both available with a range of engine options that include Yanmar’s new HVO-ready diesels. This allows the two yachts to burn more sustainable HVO fuel, derived from waste vegetable oil. It is being rolled out across marine hotspots and offers the possibility of radically reducing carbon emissions at no cost to performance. It is another facet of Greenline Yachts’ commitment to Responsible Yachting.

The Greenline 45 Coupe is the ideal family weekender. Available in several versions with two cabins and two bathrooms or three cabins and two bathrooms, the full-beam owner's cabin is in the centre of the boat, the most comfortable and stable position. The third cabin can also be ordered as a fully furnished office to meet remote work requirements.

Outside, there is a beautiful cockpit area with bench seating and table, totally open to the saloon thanks to the sliding glass windows, while the sunpad in the bow comes with a folding bimini for the hottest part of the day. The large bathing platform provides easy access to the sea and to the toy storage garage. 

The interior designed by Marco Casali is elegant and warm and bathed in light through the large windows. The galley aft is practical for both indoor and outdoor dining. Forward is a comfy L-shaped saloon with a choice of elegant furnishings. 

But there’s more to the Greenline 45 Coupe than just cruising comfort. Responsible yachting has always been a priority for the Slovenia-based boatbuilder, which produced its first hybrid model over 15 years ago. Its latest 6G H-Drive system, able to cut emissions by up to 40% per year across the typical use cycle of a Greenline yacht, will be showcased at the Cannes Yachting Festival 2024 aboard the flagship 58 Fly Hybrid.

“We believe modern boaters are ready for the next step in the evolution of leisure boating and are becoming increasingly more aware that we are the only ones that can preserve the environment for our children and grandchildren to enjoy,” says Vladimir Zinchenko, Greenline owner and CEO. 

The middle-of-the-range Greenline 45 Coupe with the 6G Hybrid was the perfect candidate to demonstrate exactly how the brand’s ongoing research into hull efficiency and sustainable solutions provides carefree family moments on the water while reducing operational costs and impacts on the environment.

Apart from the convenience of having electricity available at all times, the advantage of hybrid drive is silent and emission-less navigation. It also allows for cruising for up to 20 nautical miles at 4-5 knots on a full battery charge, which is more than enough for a typical day on the water which would be an emission free trip. Moreover, the running costs of electric boating can be 10 times lower than burning diesel fuel.

But even without the hybrid system, there are huge benefits from Greenline’s standard fit solar panels. These are constantly creating renewable energy and feeding the battery bank so that onboard lighting and refrigeration, even air conditioning, can be run without having to rely on a diesel generator. That means no noise, no vibration, no emissions, and no more warm bottles of wine! 

“We’ve been in this game since our launch, so our yachts are miles ahead of the competition when it comes to efficient hybrid propulsion and silent hotellerie,” says chief commercial officer Luca Raumland . “But to illustrate a typical application of our hybrid system, we ran a case study based on a trip from Palma de Mallorca to Ibiza with an overnight stopover at anchor in a bay near Andratx, a total distance of about 60nm. The results may surprise you.”

In the early morning, the Greenline 45 Coupe smoothly left the marina in Palma using its electric motor and running the air-condition of the battery. After a quick top-up at the fueling station, it continued its journey towards its first stopover. The battery state 1-2 nm from the marina is still above 80%. 

The scenic journey from Palma to Andratx , a distance of about 20nm, takes about one hour at an average speed of 20 kts. In Diesel mode the electric motor turns into a generator and charges the batteries. After just 15 minutes, the battery level is already back at 100%. 

We anchor in an idyllic bay of Andratx in the south west of Mallorca for 48 hours while family members take a swim and sunbathe before sunset cocktails and dinner with only the sound of the water lapping the sides of the boat. All of the home appliances including the A/C in smart mode are running off the battery bank. Including the electric maneuvering in the bay, the battery is at around 10% 48 hours later. 

Departing Andratx for Ibiza, the Greenline 45 Coupe cruises using its efficient diesel engine. The electric motor turns again into a generator and charges the LiPo batteries. After the two-hour ride we arrive with 100% battery power.

Approaching Ibiza, known for its nightlife and traditional houses that stand out for the whiteness of their lime-covered façades, we switch into electric mode and enter the bay silently. The Greenline 45 Coupe stays in the north of the island for another 48 hours. All of the home appliances, including the air conditioning in smart mode, are run off the batteries. By the end of our stay the battery level is at 10%, which will recharge completely as we start the crossing back to Palma in diesel mode at the end of a perfect long weekend.

Evergreen yacht design is a rare touch, but it is one that Greenline Yachts of Slovenia has perfected with its longstanding Greenline 48. Although the original design of this mid-sized cruiser was first unveiled 10 years ago, it has proven a hugely successful model and still sells around 12 units every year. The 120th hull will be delivered later this year, the ultimate proof of Greenline’s philosophy of Responsible Yachting.

Its appeal is based around timeless styling, an incredibly efficient hull and drivetrain, plus the choice of either a flybridge or a coupe profile. Factor in Greenline Yachts’ flexible interior layout and meticulous finish quality, and you have all the elements to create a fantastic ownership experience.

“We always wanted Greenline Yachts to do things differently to other yacht builders, so we’ve focused on Responsible Yachting and innovation throughout our range,” said owner and CEO Vladimir Zinchenko. “I’ve always seen model longevity as a sign we’re doing both these things right, because it means that our boats are making and keeping owners happy. By avoiding fads and trends, Greenline Yachts remain coveted for year after year, amortising their carbon emissions over a much longer period.”

Launched at the Düsseldorf Boat Show in 2014, the Greenline 48 is often described as a classic gentleman’s cruiser because it attracts both experienced power boaters and ex-sailors. Its smart design is the key here. Its volume is slightly larger but similar to the Greenline 45, with which it shares many features, but the Greenline 48 positions the master cabin forward, where it benefits from abundant natural ventilation.

Meanwhile, the meticulously designed hull has a relatively broad, shallow forefoot, which means that wavelets slide past at anchor rather than slapping loudly on the topsides. In fact, the forward section of the hull is more reminiscent of a sailing boat, capable of slicing through the waves in a seaway. Experienced boaters recognise that a host of such small details add up to a better experience aboard.

Accommodation has been carefully thought through, with two large guest cabins that include flexible sliding beds enabling you to quickly switch from a twin to a double and back. Either way there is an ensuite bathroom for each, with shower and heads. What’s more, there is the option to build a completely self-sufficient captain’s cabin aft, giving up a section of the gigantic lazarette.

Life on board is naturally concentrated around the main deck with its spacious deck saloon, deep protected cockpit and lounging space fore and aft. In a minor engineering miracle, Greenline’s design has no steps at all in the main deck between the helm station and the aft deck. The advantages here are undeniable, especially under way where the low centre of gravity makes for stability and comfort. Another attractive feature of the Greenline 48 is the aft galley, which communicates with both the saloon and the cockpit through an opening window and a sliding door.

“We’ve always been very proud of this feature, because it makes it so easy to start preparing food without having to duck out of the conversation between guests or family members,” says chief commercial officer Luca Raumland. “It’s hard to believe now, because you see this layout in all sorts of boat, but it was originally a Greenline innovation way back in 2008.”

Both the Flybridge and Coupe formats have their own distinct advantages. In parts of the world like Turkey and Seattle, a flybridge is practically mandatory, giving a fantastic extra entertaining space that is open to cooling breezes. On the other hand, the Coupe has a sleeker profile with broader overhangs that help keep the interior shady and cool. This is especially popular in Australia, south Asia or in the USA for the Great Loop. Its coachroof also provides the perfect surface to receive the solar panels which form a key part of Greenline’s DNA.

A generous array of 8 high-quality solar panels are specced as standard, allowing the Greenline 48 to generate more than 15kWh of power daily as you use the boat. Choose a battery capacity to suit, and let the solar panels recharge them throughout the day, basically eliminating the need for a generator and increasing autonomy in line with Greenline Yachts’ Responsible Yachting philosophy.

It gets more interesting still if an owner opts for Greenline Yacht’s proprietary H-Drive hybrid propulsion system. Recently upgraded to an even more capable 6G version, this proven technology combines twin 24kW electric motors with two 250hp diesel engines (option: 2x 370hp). At 5 knot e-cruising speed, the boat can cover up to 25 nautical miles in silent electric mode. 

The engine takes over for faster speeds up to around 24 knots, allowing you to make quick passage times and arrive with the battery full – ready for another weekend without generator noise.

High-end motoryacht builder Greenline Yachts is stepping up its support for the concept of responsible yachting. The hugely successful Slovenian brand has been championing hybrid and electric propulsion for years, but it is raising the stakes with a series of new initiatives, including green awards for customers and sustainable building materials.

More than 1,000 Greenline yachts have been delivered since the yard first opened its doors in 2008. Driven by a passion for the sea and a determination to make yachting more sustainable, Greenline Yachts launched the Greenline 33 as its debut model, unaware they were crafting a bestseller. Within just two years, the Greenline 33 Hybrid was the world’s most popular 10m model.

More designs followed in quick succession: in 2011 it was the Greenline 40 Hybrid (211 hulls sold to date); a few years later there was a 48ft model, then the Greenline 39, the 45 and last year the Greenline 58 Fly. These last two ushered in a new era of design for Greenline Yachts, distinguishing between the Fly and Coupe styling. The flybridge models were an instant success, offering owners an elegant new exterior space up top. The Coupe, meanwhile, preserves the original sleek lines and delivers the maximum solar array. Today, the range runs to eight models from 39ft to 58ft LOA.

Very early on, shipyard owner Vladimir Zinchenko saw the merits of offering more sustainable propulsion options than the standard diesel engine. He developed the sophisticated 6G H-Drive serial diesel-electric powertrain, now in its sixth generation since 2008.

“Our customers have always wanted to immerse themselves in the natural world and preserve it at the same time,” said Zinchenko. “They want special moments with friends and family on the water but value ecological responsibility and a low impact on the environment. Our range of hybrid yachts allow them to do that, and we are seeing a sharp rise in enquiries as the market changes.”

But responsible yachting isn’t simply a matter of greener propulsion – the whole design ethos of Greenline Yachts is built around efficiency in the water. It starts with the “superdisplacement” hulls of each model, which have been rigorously developed and tested to provide the smoothest ride, stability and efficiency at both lower and higher speeds. This gives the yachts impressive range and economy. Operating in highly efficient displacement mode at 4-7 knots, you could cover 20-25 nautical miles under electric power alone. For longer passages, engage the diesel engines to provide more range and up to 25 knots, also charging the batteries as you go. When you arrive at your destination, you can drop the hook and run the yacht in silent electric mode for days.

“Batteries cover 48 hours of aircon and hotel loads in all our yachts, without ever needing to start the engine or a generator. But if you’re not using aircon, your stay can be unlimited, because the solar panels recharge the batteries sufficiently for all other on board consumers.” says Luca Raumland, Chief Commercial Officer at Greenline Yachts. “Every yacht has a big expanse of solar panels, lithium batteries and inverter as standard, and there’s the option to add more for full off-grid autonomy.”

Greenline Yachts' philosophy of responsible yachting extends to the construction process as well. The high-tech foam sandwich used to strengthen the hull comes from recycled PET plastic. Lay-up is through vacuum infusion, ensuring very precise material use. Currently using exclusively vinyl-ester resin but, the yard’s technicians are experimenting with natural fibres and green resins in the lay-up of the yachts themselves.

The shipyard is also reducing waste and power usage on the production lines. Any offcuts of wood from the interior fit-out are collected and pressed into heating pellets, while leftover foam is reused by a neighboring company to produce home insulation. Production of single-use marketing materials has been almost eliminated and even then, it is clearly focused on recycled or sustainable materials.

“Navigating more than 250,000 miles on my own yacht, later working as a dealer for a sailing yacht brand, gave me a respect for our environment, but it also taught me about what boaters really want from a yacht,” said Zinchenko. “I have brought all that experience to bear in Greenline Yachts, assembling a skilled team to prove that you can build a beautiful yacht in a responsible fashion and still provide extreme comfort and a sense of total safety.
